3.2 Public Beta

UPDATE The beta blog is live. Read all the entries and download 3.2, there's plenty to play with!

Jay's just posted an announcement to ProNet with some juicy details. Movable Type 3.2 will be going into a beta sometime tomorrow in the afternoon. Here comes the best part of the announcement, its a public beta, what this means is that the beta blog will be an open environment and anyone will be able to download a copy and use it.

I've managed to get my hands on some early test builds and the new release is just staggering. So much has changed that 32 posts simply don't do it justice. Almost every single hack I've ever posted onto Movalog has found its way into this release in one way or another.

I've done some major work on my plugins, and written a few new antispam plugins for the new feedback architecture (which you will hopefully see on the beta blog). Something must be said for the plugin architecture, it is so powerful that writing a plugin has become ridiculously easy. It took me all of 10 minutes to write and test an antispam plugin!

Hold onto your hats because this release is awesome, so good that it may provoke some of our Wordpress migrant friends to wander back this way!

That's great to hear! I'm really looking forward to this because I'm being bombarded by Soulless Spammers, and have had to disable comments for the time being (and need to go in and run a sql query to disable trackback as soon as I have the time and to figure out which value I need to set it to).

Hi Lola, I too have been hit though mod_security and SpamLookup has been catching most of it. The new stuff in 3.2 will really kickass especially after all the tools get updated to use the feedback system.

Until tomorrow have a look at this thread on disabling trackbacks.

Arvind, I just have two questions. Is there any kind of spell checker built into this release? I hate having to write something in word and then copy and paste. I'm not sure if there is a plugin for that anyway. Also, are there going to be new default styles? Thanks.

Hi Sean

Unfortunately there is no inbuilt spellchecker in Movable Type 3.2. If there was an inbuilt spellchecker, the already large distribution would balloon in size for dictionaries etc. Your best bet is to install something like Iespell or Spellbound (browser extensions for Internet Explorer and Firefox/Mozilla respectively).

I'm not sure about the new styles/templates, they've simplified the Individual Archive Template drastically but beyond that I have no clue.

A test comment to test a bug.

Have you tested all of your plugins in 3.2? Will you be converting them using BigPAPI? (I'm not really sure if I understand BigPAPI enough to comment on it, but I was just curious how this would affect you as a plugin developer.)
