Dropcash: MT Blogroll 2.5

The next version of MT Blogroll is almost done and is probably one of the most feature rich releases yet. Truth be told, I had originally intended to start charging for this plugin (somewhere in the range of $15 for personal users). However as time went on, this model appealed to me less and less.

Hence, in anticipation of this release and in an effort to keep the personal version free, I've created a new Dropcash Campaign where I have also given a brief overview of the new features/improvements in this release. MT Blogroll 2.5 will be released (with an all new and complete set of docs) once the campaign hits its target.

How long do you think it will take to reach the goal? I haven't seen too many dropcash campaigns reach their goals in a reasonable amount of time. I think you really should consider charging for the plugin. I know I would pay $15 to have this new version now.

Is there a feature list for 2.5 anywhere on the site? That might help the campaign along. I'm waiting on list sorting, and if that was on there, it might be the motivation I need to make a donation.

Like the other poster, I'd happily pay make a payment, but I'd like to know what I'm getting for it (as with the conventional shareware approach, where the software is released first, and you know what you are paying for).

Warren: As I mention in the entry above, a brief overview of the new features can be found on the campaign page

Hope my donation helps, looking forward to 2.5!

C'mon people, donate, please.

hmm.. maybe those who have donated $15+ can get a copy of the plugin sooner? That would be a good motivator for others to donate rather than just wait until someone else does it for them - providing all involved promise not to share it with anyone else before the target here is hit.

I should've clarified that. Donors will receive a copy of MT Blogroll regardless of the status of the campaign (once I'm done coding that is :)

Hi folks, just as a heads up, I'll be away from the Internet for the next week or so, so please bear with me if the compaign completes within that time.

Asking $250 for a plugin that takes weeks to create isn't much. I can't remember that Arvinds plugins ever have let me down.

Awesome! It only took a week to hit the dropcash goal! Go Arvind! :-)

Hi guys, I just wanted to apologize for the delay in getting this new version out. I've been away from the Internet for the last few days and on finally getting some Internet access, Real Life stuff has cropped up which requires my immediate attention. I'm going to try my hardest to get it out with the next week or two. Once again sorry for the delay and my sincere thanks to all the donors.

As an update, MT Blogroll 2.5 went out to donors 3/4 days ago. A full public release will be forthcoming once docs are done.

Imagine my suprise when finally getting 2.5 installed and getting a few links installed to my various categories I find an advertising link at the end of EVERY category listing. This is after I have donated to your site twice in the past couple of years.

I am very happy with your programs, and may donate again in the future, but after EVERY category list? Isn't that a bit much?

Hi Arvind - just got back from holiday and have university orientation starting in the morning, so will hopefully get onto the new release in the next day or two. Re previous comment ..there's advertising in the plugin?? Even for paying users?

Yes indeed there's advertising in the new MT Blogroll, though the term "advertising" may be stretching it. It's a simple "Powered By MT Blogroll" link that appears at the end of every MTBlogrollLinks container tag. I had forgotten to mention how to remove it in my email to donors, my apologies.

Every donor will have the right (and instructions) to remove the powered by link.

I was hoping that this would be the case on the "Powered by...". Its not that I am against your getting due credit for the excellant work you do.

Keep up your great work, and I will be waiting patirntly for the Instructions.

I have version 3.32 of MT and I cannot access the settings page of v2.12...

No it apparently never was released Pete :( I received a beta copy at one stage because I donated (twice heh) when trying to reach the $250 goal, but I got busy and seem to have lost that copy somewhere along the way, so I don't even know if it's compatible with MT3.3 let alone MT3.2 which was what it was originally made for. If I try to download now, I just get the old version. Have not heard anything from Arvind about it, so I presume it's been left to die.. tough luck for us I guess. There's a moral there somewhere huh.

Hi Guys

No it was never released because ever since the summer, I have been absolutely buried under real life work! Believe me when I say I've been diligently working on trying to get it out and the only thing blocking it now is documentation which is almost complete but not there yet.

I knew that this delay would occur and as a result I sent out the plugin to all donors of the campaign and everyone has replied back with positive comments.

I apologize if you feel that it has been abandoned. Marcus, you have my email address, if you lost v2.5, why didn't you just email me?

Hey Arvind - much like you, I've been buried. Back when you first released it to donors and I subsequently lost it (presumbly when deleting some folders) my next step would've been to contact you, but life forced things to the back burner. I hadn't thought about it much since then until the comment subscription here reminded me when Pete posted a few days ago. :)

Has it been running ok with MT3.3, have you heard?

Life continues to be demanding my time so I still don't really have much time to test it, although if you could forward me a copy it would be much appreciated - hopefully I'll get a time envelope sometime in the near future to check it out.

Hope everything's going well otherwise. How did your last exams go? - straight A's I imagine.
