Typelists for MT

A while ago, I had posted about creating a Typelists plugin for MT that would model Typelists in Typepad, I later found out that Tim Appnel was already developing a similar sort of plugin. I had emailed him that day to know where he stood in the scheme of things and got a reply back a few days ago. I've reproduced his reply here with his permission !

I am developing a "TypeLists for MT" app. I got all of the base objects working and tested. I'm also most of the way through the application. What's left is the interface (HTML), testing the application, creating various other lists and documentation. Oh... and a better name. I can't say exactly when I will finish since I have a number of other projects going with my consultancy (got to be able to eat) in addition to some other plugins such as the next generation of my syndication feeds plugin. I only started this one to submit to the contest, but never made it in time. The goal for the first release is laying the foundation. It may not function exactly like the TypePad version right out of the gates, but it will eventually and more. Being a developer I am paying particular attention to making this app extensible -- namely the ability to create new types of lists.

Like he said he's looking for a name for this plugin, I suggested his stick with Typelists but he replied that Typelists was already associated and trademarked with Six Apart, do you have any ideas what he could call this plugin ? Also asking him whether there would be support for the new php in 3.1 he told me that he might consider it, but it definitely would not be in the initial release. Exciting stuff!

"Movable Lists", perhaps?

Yep, he's thought of that already and thinks that is probably the best at the moment !

What exactly is a "typelist"? I don't use TypePad, so this is not a term I'm familiar with.

I'm not sure whether you read my entry on Typelists, but here is the official Typepad post explaining it http://www.typepad.com/news/2003/07/typelists.html

I believe what Tim is developing will closely model it - but be different in its own way !

Since it's going to be a Movable Type Plug-in, can't you call it whatever you want? Titles like "Moveable Favorites" or "Favlists" should all be fair game. I'm very excited to see if you (two?) can pull this off. I know Perl, PHP, JavaScript and PhotoShop, so if I can help email me.

I'm not going to be programming this plugin, Tim Appnel (2nd place winner of the plugin contest) is developing it !

I would be very interested in this plugin once it is finished. Perhaps something like "ListMaker for MT" would work well. That kind of sums up what it does.

It's great to hear that a TypeList clone is being developed; this is the Typepad feature that I'd like to see in MT. If Tim Appnel decided to fund the development with a Dropcash campaign, I would certainly contribute something.
